Description
UICOMP/OSF Healthcare Acute Care Surgery fellows develop advanced proficiency in the management of critically ill and injured patients in a transition to practice model. We train fellows who are comfortable with the complexity of these high-acuity patients and develop unique expertise in systems operations and/or disaster management making them excellent candidates for leadership positions.
Teaching conferences include didactic sessions, morning report, M&M, and Surgical Grand Rounds. Fellows will spend 4 months on Trauma/Critical Care, 4 months on Emergency General Surgery, and 4 months of electives with the option of a concentration focus. Electives include CVICU/cardiothoracic surgery, ultrasound, disaster management, research, system operations. All rotations occur at OSF St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC), which is the flagship quaternary referral center that serves a 15-hospital system and large area of central Illinois. We have the only Level 1 center in the region with higher than expected penetrating trauma and critically injured patients. Our emergency general surgery volume is above the 80th percentile with complex pathophysiology creating an incredible learning environment.
BC/BE Fellows will work with regionally and nationally recognized leaders in trauma, critical care, burns, emergency general surgery, and disaster medicine with years of experience in both military and civilian trauma. Faculty can provide many opportunities for fellows to integrate into the acute care surgery community, including involvement at national and regional societies, opportunities for scholarship, and career guidance. Fellows will be monitored by these experienced faculty at the beginning of fellowship with the anticipation for early progression to independence within the first 3-6 months. Assigned faculty are available for review and consultation on rounds, in operative cases, and while on call.
Eligibility: Applicants must have completed a general surgery residency and preference for fellowship in surgical critical care. Interested applicants are invited to apply for one of two remaining positions.
This position does supply visa support. Candidates must have US Work Authorization.

Completed General Surgery Residency Training (Provide Diploma), Board Certified or approved to sit for boards, ability to obtain a permanent Illinois Medical License, Interest in Surgical Critical Care
