BECOME A RN – TRAUMA STAFF NURSE MANAGER AT CHKD
As an RN – Trauma Staff Nurse Manager at CHKD, you will be responsible for managing trauma service personnel, coordinating the workflow and functions of the Trauma Service Line to facilitate safe and efficient workflow and clinical practices. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and senior leadership, this position is responsible for the management and delivery of quality, cost-effective, and evidence-based patient care that fits the criteria of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This position is responsible for the Trauma Program’s overall operations with 24-hour accountability. The RN – Trauma Staff Nurse Manager seeks guidance from the Trauma Medical Director and/or executive leadership for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership and serves as the liaison between the trauma service and hospital services necessary to provide care to multiple-injured patients.
- Ensures that the Trauma Program satisfies all the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia designation as a Level 1Pediatric Trauma Center.
- Serves as the primary contact and resource for the nursing services required for trauma care from the time of admission and continuing through rehabilitation and follow up care.
- Delegates, problem solves, makes decisions, and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation.
- Provides oversight and management of all aspects of the Trauma Program to include but not to be limited to processes / systems, program analysis, development, implementation, facilitation, evaluation, restructuring, monitoring and/or consultation.
- Participates in the development of the strategic goals of the Trauma Service Line
- Manages research for service area, develops processes to promote quality of service and budgetary compliance of department budget and Trauma Fund grant.
- Maintains appropriate standards of practice and standards of care for all traumatically injured patients
- Monitors operations and quality standards to assure compliance with governmental regulations and the established standards of accrediting agencies.
- Performs ongoing gap analysis for trauma center accreditation, designation, and verifications requirements to optimize patient care and outcomes
- Oversee and maintain all aspects of the trauma PIPS program consistent with accrediting agency(s) in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director.
- Supervise data collection, coding, scoring validation, reporting and analysis to ensure the data drives all aspects of the trauma service line (clinical care, research, benchmarking)
- Foster and maintain relationships with prehospital agencies and referring facilities and provide feedback on patient care and outcomes.
- Develop and foster community outreach for the trauma program to raise awareness and promote growth to include injury prevention in the community served
- Serve as liaison to the Office of EMS and participate in quarterly meetings and workgroups
- Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other assigned activities
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
- Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
- Required to obtain 30 Trauma Education Hours (THE) per 3-year verification cycle of which 50% must be from an extramural source (Per state requirement).
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
- 1 year of Healthcare and/or management experience preferred.
- 1 year of Pediatric, Emergency Department or Trauma experience preferred.
