Description

The Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Fellowship Program at UC Irvine Health is a 1-year program that offers robust and extensive training covering the entire spectrum of trauma and emergency general surgery and surgical critical care, as well as elective and robotic surgery. This program provides a non-ACGME year of training intended to complement and enhance the ACGME/RRC – accredited 1-year Surgical Critical Care (SCC) Fellowship. Upon completion of the curriculum, the graduating fellow will be facile in the care of the most severely ill surgical patients and will be ready for independent practice at a Level-1 or 2 trauma center in a busy academic or community setting. The incoming acute care surgery fellow will be appointed at the clinical instructor level for increased autonomy but will always function with supervision from full-time faculty.

Requirements

Eligible applicants will meet the following requirements:
- Completion (or anticipated completion) of an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency training program and surgical critical care fellowship
- Candidates must have a California medical license by start of application credentialing
- International Medical Graduates must be ECFMG-certified at the time of application
- American Board of Surgery certified or American board of Surgery eligible (must have completed 5 years of General Surgery residency prior to start of fellowship). American Osteopathic Board of Surgery eligibility and/or certification is also acceptable.
