POSITION DETAILS:
Per Diem; Minimum 1 shift/PP, Varied shifts including 6a-6p or 6p-6a. Acute Care RN experience required.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Staff Development AC RN reports to the department director. This additional role shall be in conjunction with the AC RN job description and requires consistent staffing in the AC department. The RN must be proficient in all inpatient nursing skills. The RN will collaborate with the department director and other applicable departments to assess the current and future educational/practice needs for the staff and patients.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION:

In consultation with the director, the staff development RN shall assist in;
Developing competencies/practice references for policies/procedures through current literature research.
Determining and performing annual competency checks of the staff.
Identifying through review of patient population and therapies the need for new competencies and performance improvement initiatives
Develops resources for staff use (videos, books, journals, etc.)
Assist in development and coordinates/participates in the activities of orientation process and ongoing in-servicing of the nursing staff.
Surveys co-workers to identify their education interests and needs.
Keeps abreast of current literature; and in-services the staff on new information, evidence based practice, and hospital wide changes in collaboration with the director
May attend outside seminars and off-hour in-house programs and makes that information available to all staff.
Teaches and supervises the proper performance of nursing acts that have been delegated to others and monitors nursing care of other health care team members to include Nurse Interns, Licensed Practical Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants.
May coordinate and assist with students
May coordinate the activities of patient education as requested.
Develops and implements multidisciplinary teaching of common patient population groups.
Develops and implements patient teaching.
Works within current established budget/fiscal guidelines to provide educational opportunities for staff.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) not required initially. Start process to obtain BSN within 1 year.

Current licensure to permit to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin.

Minimum of 2 years of Acute Care experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.

Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential professional nursing practice.

Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others.

Needs to possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.

Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.

Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.

Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients.

May need to adjust scheduled hours to meet the needs of the job in regard to maintaining own competency and participating in the orientation and training of nursing employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.

The Registered Nurse is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The Registered Nurse is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, and detect odors.

The Registered Nurse must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.

Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.

Computer/keyboard skills required. Must have the ability to operate in a Windows environment.
